North Indian Classical Kathak Dance Comes To MCW

Don’t Miss This!

This Saturday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m., enjoy a North Indian Classical Kathak Dance Program with Pandit Satya Narayana Charka, internationally renowned master of classical dance. This event is free for you and your family!

Charka, who will join our faculty this fall, will present his  East-West School Of Dance with the introduction of basics of Kathak Dance, including dynamic and culture of the classical Kathak Dance Tradition of India. He will be joined by Chappaqua Center dancers (Roshni Singh, Radhi Gohil, Kashvi Kumar and Natasha Gupta).

Kathak is the classical dance style of North India. It had it’s birth in the temple, where it was used as pantomime to accompany the recitation of the Kathaks, the professional storytellers who recounted and interpreted tales from Hindu mythology. The word Kathak literally means telling a story. It soon involved dance and song as these divine rhapsodist reached the point of ecstasy in their devotion.
