Dear Students and Parents,

We would like to let you know about an important change in our Saturday Student Recital sign-up procedure (excluding adult students). Students will still perform in recitals (12:30pm, 2pm, 3:30pm, 5pm) only upon recommendation by their teachers. Again, this is NOT changing. However, students and parents will need to sign-up for their preferred recital time with our Office Manager Katie Goulart, at the front office, either by phone, email or in person. Katie’s contact information is:

Katie’s desk is located to the right of our front desk.

There will be a limited number of slots for each recital time as we don’t want our recitals to get too long. If your preferred recital time is full, please choose another time.

Sign-up opens on Saturday, November 12 and closes on Wednesday, November 16.

There is also another recital later this semester, in December. Please check those recital dates with your teacher.

MCW faculty member Mikhail Zeiger’s piano duo of Ryan Kennedy and Anastasia Glazunova were the winners of the 2010-2011 Season of the American Fine Arts Festival. They will perform at Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Oct. 11, 2011. Last year, Kennedy earned Second Prize at the LISMA International Competition. (Zeiger’s student Jonathan Ogulnick received honorary mention.)

MCW faculty member Eric Barnhill recently gave a workshop on using Dalcroze techniques in Conservatory-level ear training, and did some demonstration teaching at the Yale University Department of Music.

MCW faculty member Noah Lethbridge has been running a podcast on new and independent opera with conductor Peter Szep. He did a small piece on baritone/retired football player Lawrence Harris, whose wife Renee Guerrero also teaches at MCW.

MCW faculty member Hiroshi Yamazaki recently released an album entitled “Embraceable You” with his Trio (Bill Crow, bass and John Cutrone, drums). They will perform at Miles Cafe on Saturday, May 28.
